Aowen walked quietly through the Forest of Mystery, feeling quite at home here, contrary to it's slightly sinister look. She and Shadow had been here many times before, and she knew it like the back of her hand. Shadow, have you finished your hunting? she asked, looking up to the sky for her Dragon. If not, continue, but if you are finished, come to me, my friend. She liked having Shadow by her side, and oftentimes that was the only way she felt safe and secure, though she was capable of taking care of herself. Just the thought of life without her dragon made her shiver, and she would never lose him. Never.
I'm coming my friend. He said shortly. Though he spoke short for most of the time he would speak openly from time to time. Without further conversing he burst forward in a gust of wind and dove skillfully into the trees, dodging the large branches.
Then pulling up he landed softly upon the earth floor. Closing his eyes he hummed deeply within his chest as he breathed in the fresh scent of pines. Then opening his eyes he went to Aowen. I have missed you in my hunting, young one. I wish greatly to make up for lost time.
He snaked his head towards her and quietly hummed as he basked in her presence. He watched her warmly as waited.

Aowen rested a hand on his neck, smiling brightly as she stroked his scales. Let us fly, and let us go wherever the wind may take us, or wherever our hearts do lead. she suggested, having missed being on his back for the time they'd been apart, which, incidentally, hadn't been very long, but every minute spent without Shadow felt like an eternity. Then her smile broadened as she teased, We have not had a real conversation in awhile, O Silent One.

It is true. He said as he watched her silently. Come we will go. Then he crouched making the distance to his back less. Then he awaited eager to be off. He had missed her upon his back.

Aowen leaped gracefully onto his back, laughing out loud as she took hold of one of his many spikes. Then let us depart, my friend, and let us fly like we've never flown before, she said, brimming with excitment, sending waves of happiness rolling into the dragon's mind.
((I'm so excited about the Eragon movie, but it's soo far off!))

Shadow took in her excitement as he crouched low. Then with a powerful lunge they were in the air. Powerfully his muscles churned pulling them closer to the azure skies. The wind whipped at them madly as he gained altitude. Once in the air he found an air current and glided quietly upon it.
Hold on. Suddenly he folded his massive wings and plunged downward. Whirling skillfully he reopened the banners and rose again. Then he swiftly pumped his wings, gaining speed. When he had finally acheived the speed he wished he clamped his wings down and shot over the trees. Leaves went by in blurs as they traveled at their high felocity.
Exciting enough my friend, or do you wish another acreobatic stunt? He said with slight humor.

You think I'll fall off, do you? Aowen laughed challengingly. She tightened her grip on the spike and leaned low over his back. Show me the best you've got, my friend. She tightened her legs and narrowed her eyes, daring Shadow to try and throw her off. She expanded her mind until she could see through the dragon's eyes, looking down at the familiar yet unfamiliar view below, with the vibrant blues and paler greens.

He smirked playfully. Then with a low growl he shot down again. Going into a swif glide they scanned the trees below, the soft leaves brushing against his belly. With a quick jerk he dove into the trees, his wings tightened against his sides. Down they plunged, the ground coming up fast. Then he released his banners again shooting back up ot of the forest.
Whirling they rose up and up, the world spinning in a series of colors. He let her see into his eyes, let her journey into his world. Then he pulled her into himself, careful not to drain their energy. He let her feel his feelings, think his thoughts. She was now apart of him as long as she wished. Any time she could pull free of his will. He shot forth a stream of flame, allowing her to feel the warmth and heat of it's element.
Together they flew as one. Still he dived, swooped, and flipped in a series of motions, threatening to throw her off. Then he had an idea.
Let us test our trust. When I rise upon this air current jump from my back. Whether I catch you or not is up to me. He smiled at the humor in his voice. Then he found the current. Gliding he did a large circle over the Earth. He went straight up and then carefully bent back, allowing his back to become comletely parallel with the ground.

You wouldn't dare let me fall anyway! Aowen laughed playfully. She released his back and felt herself begin to plummet to the earth, her breath whipped away from her as she fell. She flipped over in the air so that she was on her stomach, but she was rather scared. She knew that Shadow would catch her, but it was still a terrifying thing, falling from that great a distance without even the support of wings! Well, Shadow, it's your choice! Are you going to let me fall? she asked humourously, slight fear in her voice but mostly just teasting.

He hesitated daring her trust. Then swiftly he plunged after her. Even without the help of his wings he dove faster than she. Still he unleashed his leathers pumping to gain distance. Then folding them he dived beneath her. Then careful not to jar her he unfolded his large wings, timed perfectly.
He felt her weight as she landed upon his back. His body in the right postion so he could absorb the shock so it wouldn't hurt her smaller body.
Then suddenly he swooped upward, testing her alertness. Some fun huh? You know I'd never let anything happen to you. He said humming contentedly within his great chest.

Aowen did not even begin to doubt Shadow. She flipped in the air and landed on his back almost on her feet. sudden impact sent her sprawling, though, and she quickly crawled up to grab a hold of one of his spikes. She tightened her grip and leaned forward as he did a sudden swoop up, but she did not fall off. Of course not, Aowen giggled quietly, patting Shadow on the neck lovingly. Nor I, you, my friend.

Smiling he eased into an easy glide as he found an air current, allowing her and himself a breath. Then gently he swooped to the lower right, carefully measuring his glide. Then he noticed the lake below them.
Care for a dip? He asked as he circled above the clear blue water. From the great height he could see the fish dart back and forth, unsure of how to escape this new large predator.

I think I will, Aowen agreed with a laugh. She stood up on Shadow's back and dove into the lake that was at least ten feet below them, landing gracefully hands-first with a soft splash before going down, down, down. She stayed down for a few seconds before swimming back to the surface. The elf took a deep breath and sighed contentedly; it felt good to be in the cool water.

Happily Shadow dove after her his wings clamped tightly about his girth. His bodice crashed into the water spraying Awoen with a wave of water as she came up. Down he dove, the fish frantically darting back and forth. Maw outstretched he chased them teasingly making them flee before him.
Then feircly he pumped his limbs and wings rising to the surface. Powerfully he broke the water, wings outstretched. Then quickly he rose from the water, the liquid splashing down his leathered back. Swiftly he soared above her before plunging back down into the coolness of the aqua.
The like a crocodile he skimmed the water, his body just below the surface. Slyly he swam beneath her before slowly rising, lifting her off the water back onto his back as he floated contentedly, the sun warmly shining upon them.

Aowen lay happily on Shadow's back, rubbing his scales and looking up contentedly at the soft blue sky. It is a beautiful day today, she told him, closing her eyes as the bright sun began to warm her wet body. Then a disturbing thought entered her mind and she sat up uneasily. Days like these can only be followed by something horrible, she added. At least, during my life every perfect day such as this has been followed by some terrible occurance. I hope I'm wrong this time.
